Quickly and conveniently gaining access to buried utility infrastructures has long been a problem for both contractors and utility owners alike. Traditional methods of exposing buried plant under hard surfaces can tie up traffic lanes for days, involves many pieces of large construction equipment, and results in large amounts of spoil, and accounts for a large portion of the overall cost of the work.
Utilicor Services is able to quickly, and cost effectively, core the road/sidewalk, allowing for non-destructive hydrovac excavation to proceed. The core that has been removed from the road is set aside for future reinstatement. If the excavation needs to remain open for any reason, a circular road plate can be placed in the cored hole, allowing traffic lanes to quickly and easily be reopened until the final reinstatement of the core has been completed.
Once the utility work is completed the core is permanently bonded back into road/sidewalk. Utilizing our proprietary Permanent Pavement Bonding Compound, Utilibond™, the replaced core gains sufficient strength after only 30-minutes to allow the site to be reopened to traffic. No temporary patches, no volatile patching compounds, no potholes, no call-backs.
Common applications for this process include test holes for direction drilling, spot locates and depth checks for subsurface engineering jobs (S.U.E.), and the multitude of small hole/keyhole repairs utility companies complete using specially designed long handled tools.
